A surprising success of Japan’s Toho Kaiju inventions is Legendary’s Monsterverse. Additionally, Godzilla appears to be more popular than ever because of Godzilla Minus One, Toho’s own entry into the main Godzilla series, and the well-received TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. However, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the next film, is the most recent in Legendary’s dedication towards continuing the Monsterverse.

Quick Recap

The 2014 Godzilla movie, which took on a magnificent western reboot with an astounding sense of scale and an abundance of nearly apocalyptic monster confrontations, was a huge hit for Legendary’s cinematic universe, which was based on the storied Toho monster flicks. Audiences will soon learn that Godzilla is not the only monster in the universe, as Godzilla: King of the Monsters introduced plenty of new dangers to Earth just after Godzilla vanquished the terrifying MUTOs. Even though Godzilla almost died at the hands of the deadly King Ghidorah, the mutant lizard king prevails in the end and takes the kingdom for himself.

Godzilla x Kong:The New Empire

But long before Godzilla rose to glory as the world’s greatest monster, another monstrous ruler established himself on an isolated island known as Skull Island. Kong: Skull Island marks the biggest comeback for King Kong, showing the gigantic ape battling off intruders in his revered native habitat. Many years later, Kong and Godzilla faced off in the aptly named Godzilla vs. Kong. Although they begin as centuries-old opponents, the two titans eventually work together to take down the rebel Mecha-Godzilla. With Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, scheduled for release in three years, Godzilla and Kong will now get to come back together.

Plot and Story Details

Storyline of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Kong settled in the Hollow Earth, the long-fabled kingdom in the centre of the Earth that Monarch has been looking for since the 1950s, as revealed in Legacy of Monsters, when Godzilla vs. Kong came to a conclusion. In order to keep an eye on Kong and discover more about his new kingdom—which was formerly ruled by his ancestors—the gang also established research facilities there. After Kong and Godzilla defeated a Mechagodzilla that was powered by one of King Ghidorah’s chopped heads, Godzilla, meantime, made his way back to the ocean.

Legendary and Warner Bros. claim that in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the two will team up to confront a new enemy that threatens the Titans and all of humanity. The two of them, together with a few human characters, will have to put an end to this new enemy force, which may be a bunch of hostile gigantic apes, a new Titan, or an enigmatic signal. There will also be other revelations regarding the origins of the Great Apes, the Hollow Earth, and the Titans themselves.

The Iwi, who first relocated to the Hollow Earth and subsequently to Skull Island, based on the latest trailer, might be implicated. The trailer seems to provide a peek at their highly developed underground civilization, implying that Camazotz did not completely wipe out their tribe (as depicted in Godzilla vs. Kong). Alternatively, it might all be a flashback to show how and why the Iwi joined forces with Kong’s race.

Considering the amount of work done to connect Skull Island, the Hollow Earth, and Toho’s Kaiju characters over the course of four films and a television series, it is possible that more clarity surrounding the Hollow Earth will emerge as the most intriguing aspect of the Monsterverse world-building.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Story Details

This time around, Godzilla and Kong will team up in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to battle a terrifying Titan force. In order to keep the peace between the two worlds, the titular Titans must unite to confront the wicked Skar King, godzilla and kong the new empire villain who has taken strength from the Hollow Earth temple that resembles that of both Godzilla and Kong.

Furthermore, the villain’s brilliant blue eyes are displayed, implying that Skar King has Godzilla’s abilities. Kong does not have the ability to breathe atomic breath, but Godzilla does, thanks to his blue atomic energy. Given that the Hollow Earth temple contains Godzilla’s power, it’s plausible that a member of Kong’s race broke through and took possession of the power for themselves. If so, the Titan War might have been sparked by this incident.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailers

The trailer starts with a seismic event and a voice doubting humanity’s knowledge of life on Earth’s surface. “For most of human civilization, we believed that life could only exist on the surface of our planet. What else were we wrong about?” the narrator asks.

A massive, armoured hand appears out of the ground, preparing the scene for a titanic battle. A glimpse of King Kong approaching a smaller primate alludes to the complexity of the Titans’ world.

“Witness the Rise of a New Empire,” the caption on screen announces, accompanied by a bizarre sound and more dramatic music. Godzilla then appears, his brilliant pink spikes rising out of the depths to set the stage for what looks to be an incredible battle. That makes us think, Is Godzilla real?

Godzilla is a fictional character, originally appearing in a Japanese science fiction film in 1954. While inspired by various mythological creatures and real animals, Godzilla itself is not real. It has since become an iconic figure in popular culture through numerous films, books, comics, and other media adaptations.

The simian Titan Skar King (Sukā Kingu) will make an appearance as the primary enemy in the upcoming 2024 Legendary Pictures movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire alongside Shimo.
